Introduction
Buddhist Kok Kwong Secondary School (BKKSS) was founded in September, 1981.
BKKSS was established in appreciation of the extraordinary and exemplary
contribution the Reverend Kok Kwong made as a leader of the Buddhists in Hong
Kong. It is the first government aided Buddhist secondary school in Shatin. The
school is a six-storey building situated by the Shing Mun River. Extension work
was carried out in 1997. Since then, the learning environment has been greatly
improved with additional facilities.
School & Students Performances
Our results in the public exams have been consistently stable in the past years.
The overall passing percentage is about 90% in AL exam. 75% of our students are
able to enter universities. We also have satisfactory results in HKCEE. The
passing percentages of most of the subjects are higher than the territory
average. (It is 83% in HKCEE).
Most of the F.6 places are filled by our own students. In the non-academic
aspects, we intend to nurture studentsˇ¦ care towards the community and their
leadership skills. We started the ˇ§One Student One Sportˇ¨ programme two years
ago and, students have to do voluntary work on designated days every year.
Of all the extra-curricular activities, the most distinctive teams are the
Long-Distance running Team and the Fencing Team, who always finish in the top
three in inter-school contests. Our Junior Police Call & Road Safety Patrol Team
always come first in territory-wide contests.
New Senior Secondary Curriculum
Besides compulsory subjects like Chinese, English, Mathematics and Liberal
Studies, all students can choose 3 electives (3X) out of the 14 subjects
provided by our school. They are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Integrated
Science, Business Accounting and Financial Studies (BAFS), Economics, Geography,
History, Chinese History, Information and Communications Technology, Visual Art,
Music, Chinese Literature, Religion (Buddhist) and Ethics, There is no applied
learning in our school but all students have to study Buddhism in their senior
secondary school years.
